SWTOR Companion Guide: Vette – A Rogue Twilek

by SWTOR Dominator on March 25, 2012

When you step into the world of Star Wars: The Old Republic, you are not alone for very long; usually, you receive your first companion in your first few levels—the first of several who accompany you throughout your journey across the galaxy. In this new series of articles, we will provide you with an in-depth guide on your companion: Everything you wanted to know and more! This week, we focus on the Sith Warrior’s faithful companions.

On the planet of Korriban, the Sith Warrior is called upon by Overseer Tremel to undergo trials to become true Sith before being handed over to Darth Baras, who introduces you to your first companion: a capture blue Twi’lek named Vette. After he orders you to take your new slave on your next mission, Vette ends up sticking by your side throughout the entire game.

Vette’s Background and Stats

Originally born on Ryloth into slavery, Vette managed to escape the draining life of servitude, instead honing her skills to become an agile treasure hunter. However, her daring nature ended up getting the better of her as she was caught trying to sneak into one of Korriban’s famed tombs.

SWTOR Companion Vette

As she has traversed the galaxy stealthily, Vette has learned to be quick with her blaster pistol. Fortunately for you, she’s ambidextrous in this ability, meaning she can dual-wield a pair of blaster pistols as soon as you find a new one to let her use. Since she is incapable of using any other kind of weapons, the dual-wield blaster pistol pair is the best choice to let her handle.

As a rogue, the primary stat you will want to boost to maximize her damage and abilities is Cunning, which directly has an impact on the damage she deals with technological abilities, affecting both her offensive tactics and defensive maneuvers. Her secondary stat is Endurance, which dictates not only how much health Vette has to spare but how quickly she regenerates it. Because she can only don medium armor, this is important for her to maintain, especially if you are a Marauder since you can only wear the same weaker armor.

Remember that regardless of your choice to evolve into the Juggernaut or the Marauder, the Sith Warrior still carries the flame of the Empire in his heart. This means that if you intend to follow your nature and take Dark Side options, cruelly crushing your enemies and ignoring the moral choice of rescuing innocents, then you’ll quickly learn that you’ll never be on Vette’s good side.

With her dislikes counting kissing up, bullying and—quite specifically—killing innocents, Vette is only an easy choice for companionship and romance should your Sith Warrior have a heart and accept his Light Side. Getting on her good side while remaining a typical Sith Darkie, you can always dismiss her for the truly cruel choices, and pick the options that best benefit her likes: anti-authority behavior, protecting the weak, treasure and getting paid a fat sum of credits.

Vette’s Abilities

With her pair of blaster pistols, Vette can diminish the enemy population with the following abilities:

• Combat Acumen [Instant]: Increases the critical hit chance by 25 percent for 15 seconds. Shares a cooldown with Survival Instinct.
• Twin Shots [Instant, 15s CD, 30m range]: Fires both blasters, doing 506 to 566 weapon damage over 3 seconds. Requires dual blasters.
• Assault Mode [Instant, 1.5s CD]: Increases the damage of the companion’s area abilities by 10 percent, and decreases the cooldown of area damage abilities by 25 percent.
• Blaster Sweep [Instant, 15s CD, 30m range]: Sprays waves of bolts in a cone in front of the companion, inflicting 3704 to 3797 weapon damage over 4.5 seconds. Requires both blasters to be equipped.
• Survival Instinct [Instant, 120s CD]: Increases ranged and melee defenses for 50 percent over 15 seconds. Shares a cooldown with Combat Acumen.
• Aimed Blast [3s activation, 12s CD, 30m range]: Shoots the target for 851 to 1093 kinetic damage. Requires dual blasters.
• Sniper Mode [Instant, 1.5 CD]: Increases the damage of the companion’s activation time abilities by 10 percent, and decreases the activation time of Aimed Blast by 0.5 seconds.
• Burst [1.5s activation, 6s CD, 30m range]: Fires a series of powerful blasts for 584 to 685 weapon damage. Requires dual blasters.
• Excavation Charge [Instant, 9s CD, 30m range]: Vette tosses an explosive device at the target, dealing 386 to 402 kinetic damage to up to 3 targets within 8 meters.
• Quickshot [Instant, 6s CD, 30m range]: Blasts a target for 553 to 639 weapon damage.

Vette’s Crew Skill Bonuses

Vette provides a bonus of +5 efficiency for the Underworld Trading crew skill and +5 critical chance for Treasure Hunting. This means Vette will complete Underworld Trading missions in less time, and she is more likely to bring back something more valuable when she goes out for Treasure Hunting.

Giving Vette Gifts

Like any other person—Twi’lek or otherwise—Vette appreciates a token of affection every now and then, and much like any other person, there are different kinds of gifts she appreciates more than others. The following list will provide an easy reference for when you are working on getting on her good side:

• Courting: Favorite
• Cultural Artifact: Love
• Imperial Memorabilia: Like
• Luxury: Love
• Military Gear: Dislike
• Republic Memorabilia: Like
• Technology: Like
• Trophy: Dislike
• Underworld Good: Favorite
• Weapon: Like

Now that you have a little background and understand what Vette is all about, you are ready to dominate your path to becoming a Darth of your very own.
